A little bit late for inktober, but here’s some story vignettes I drew today. (and some indulgent palette-swaps of course)
Taking a break from working on the character controller to make some giant plants and fancy windows. I love how the patterned light & shadow looks/feels in VR. It really brings the space to life.
Some watercolor character sketches. Not sure how I feel about the pentel aquash brush yet. Feeling some Kaiba / Astro-boy vibes today.
“Shy“. Painted in virtual reality with Oculus Quill.

Quill just released an update that allowed me to optimize my model! So glad I can finally share this in 3D! I’ll be doing more pieces like this now that I actually have a way of sharing them :)
Been playing around with unity’s terrain to feel out the scale in VR and it feels so nice seeing things in context of a larger environment. (even if everything looks like paper and clay right now).
Just finished writing a script that allows me to cut up sprite sheets into multiple animations. This allows me to create 2D characters made of several animated planes/meshes (in 3D space, so I can put additional accessories/details on seperate layers). It also handles things like adjusting the facing direction of the back-side to match the front.
Now to work on the character controller.
I recently had some fun reimagining Sadsap’s comic: Cadaver Man as an NES game.

Playing around with the NES color palette and fantasizing about the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind NES game that never existed. Also is it just me or are the pastels on the NES really underused / under-appreciated?
